Stay Safe

The College won high praise following a rigorous Ofsted inspection. In a detailed report the education inspection team states:

The care for the students and the monitoring of their academic progress are strengths at Hartsdown. Students like being at the college and appreciate what their teachers do for them.

The physical and emotional well-being of our students is paramount and this is reflected in our well-established and acclaimed support systems.

Within the house system, a team of full-time, non-teaching Pastoral Managers look after the pastoral needs of the students. They are a dedicated team and play an essential part in dealing with the day-to-day concerns of students, parents and carers. We also employ specialist counsellors who visit the College on a regular basis.

Young people thrive in a structured and safe environment. Our clear and concise behaviour policy is based on the staff and students having the same high expectations of behaviour throughout the school and emphasises the need to reward positive behaviour. Levelled sanctions are applied in a fair and consistent way when required and these are displayed in all classrooms.

We take bullying exceptionally seriously. This message is clearly communicated through a number of anti-bullying initiatives designed to educate students. Confidential help is always available and, whenever necessary, opportunities for mediation are given.
